The Big Dig

The Big Dig is a 2 – 8 week study of your entire system using the Model to Unlearn with a team of 6 – 15 people of both management and workers.  The aim will be to gather all current customer interactions (demands and encounters), measures, capability, capacity and flow.  All of this will be done in the work.  This will form a solid picture of the customer perspective.

Having gained a solid understanding of the customer view and the design of the system.  The team will then begin to collect cultural artifacts associated with the organization’s beliefs, assumptions, and professed values.  The team will then have a full picture of the system and the cultural influences and perspectives that drive the design.
A decision is then made to either stop or move to Redesign.
